Memorandum Between Ministry of Health and EBRD to Support Nursing Development in the Georgia Signed

The Memorandum of Cooperation between the Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Labor, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia and European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has been signed.

The Memorandum incorporates the mechanisms and needs supporting introduction of professional standards of nursing and creation of well-paid jobs.

The document envisages setting of standards of professional certifying, development of short-term continuing medical education program, corresponding testing and examination programs.

The Memorandum was signed by the Minister of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Labor, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia, Zurab Azarashvili and EBRD Regional Director for the Caucasus, Catarina Bjorlin Hansen. As stated by the Regional Director, the cooperation is aimed at improved curriculum and making this profession more attractive.

With the purpose of nursing development, the Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between USAID and EBRD as well. According to USAID Mission Director John A. Pennell, cooperation is aimed at further development of nurses’ skills and qualification and strengthening of nursing sector. 

The event was attended by the First Deputy Minister of Health of Georgia, Tamar Gabunia, Head of USAID Program “"Employers for Vocational Education", David Blood, Director General of the Vocational Skills Agency, Tamar Kitiashvili.
